Established in 1845 as one of the three "Queen's Colleges in Ireland," it became a Queen's University of Belfast in 1908. The University also has teaching and research centers within several miles of the main campus, as well as a Marine Laboratory at Portaferry and a campus at Armagh City, 40 miles from Belfast.
